In 2008 Tyler McKibben founded Freedom Hospice in North Arlington, Texas. A successful healthcare industry veteran, Tyler's experience spans much of the "post acute continuum." The "post acute" simply means healthcare services offered to patients outside of an "acute" care hospital, which generally includes all but specialty private hospitals. As the operator of companies serving various parts of the post acute, Tyler was able to use his vantage point to assess how the continuum could be most improved. He concluded that hospice would benefit from a holistic, highly-consultative approach to care that would improve the patient, family and caregiver experience. With a holistic, consultative model in mind, Tyler founded Freedom and set about the task of hiring industry veterans that shared his belief that hospice could be done better. Today, Tyler is Freedom Hospice's Chief Operating Officer.
Tyler didn't have to look far to find our Administrator, Director of Nursing and Chief Clinical Officer, Paulette Dodgen, RN. Tyler and Paulette had built mutual respect for each other's high ethical standards and commitment to the patient above all else, as they worked together for more than twenty years. Freedom Hospice benefits greatly from Paulette's forty-plus-year career in eldercare: as a geriatric physician group nurse; as a hospital ICU charge nurse; as a nurse in post acute facilities; as a successful business owner who educated home and facility-based patients on their care while providing needed medical equipment; and as a case manager and painstaking clinical perfectionist. Paulette is an irreplaceable contributor to the hospice industry at large and we are very fortunate to have her at Freedom.
Freedom Hospice's outstanding team, culture and exceptional clinical and regulatory track record were just what our Chief Executive Officer, Jim Andrew had been searching for. Jim spent two years researching the post acute continuum, then hospice companies in particular, searching for a best-of-breed provider suitable as a cornerstone for his vision of an end-to-end next generation post acute care provider. Jim's an entrepreneur and an investor, but he will draw from his background in industrial development to apply principles used in other industries, but new to healthcare, to significantly improve care levels and reduce patient and family stress. Opportunity areas among his focus: reducing duplicative forms, tests and medications; minimizing contrary medications; and perhaps most important, eliminating those times when no one knows who to call when help is critically needed. Simply put, the vision is to "case manage" patient needs from end-to-end, from one healthcare process through the next. The same information sharing and efficiency enhancing measures that will improve the post acute continuum are being used within Freedom Hospice today, enabling our Quality-of-Life Care, our One Staff model for facilities and to create the capacity that allows our No Regrets culture to flourish.
